About the work

Synergy, sonic tactility, and space are themes at the core of Theocharis's practice.

Synergy; the convergence of forces (e.g. performance artists, scientists, technology, data from the natural world), purposing the formulation of fascinating and unique artistic experiences.

Sonic tactility; approaching sound through physical and digital touch to explore, form, and transform fresh and intriguing sonic idiosyncrasies. Part of the process involves the close collaboration with instrumentalists for the genesis of sonic material. In addition, the involvement of technology is extensive and multifaceted; from the art of sound recording, to developing sound designing tools and techniques, to experimenting with a variety of real-time processing engines, to binaural mixing.

Space constitutes an integral dimension that is meticulously constructed. There is interest in the transformation of the virtual space during the course of a sonic experience through the alteration of its architectural scheme and the adjustment of the reverberation measurements. Additionally, generating an interplay between trajectories of direct and irregular spatial motion is a practice of great importance that aims to propose a secondary level of narrativity to the experience.

Theocharis has produced an extensive and colorful artistic portfolio. It consists of instrumental, electroacoustic, acousmatic, sound art, and sound installation works. Involving acoustic components, pre-recorded media, and generative and interactive processes his works are presented binaurally as well as in spaces with multi-channel configuration setups, utilizing primarily the Ambisonics model for spatialization.
